The 4th World Shiology Forum was held in Hainan
With turquoise water lapping at a white, sandy beach and the coconut trees whirling, the 4th World Shiology Forum will be held on October 10-12, 2023 in Hainan Island, China. Government officials, experts, academics and “eat+food” industry professionals from 43 countries gathered to discuss the systematic governance of “eat+food” issues in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS).
The systematic governance of “eat+food” issues is an important pivot for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. The “eat+food” issues has been around for a long time and is still the most important problem humankind facing. So far, there are still 800 million people in the world who do not have enough to eat, 2 billion people suffer diseases from overeating, 3 billion people are threatened by food security, 90% of people do not get their due life span from eating, 1/3 of food is wasted, and the conflicts in human society, caused by the uneven distribution of food resources, are constant, conflicts between human and ecology is increasingly intensified. Of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, at least 13 are related to “eat+food” issues. As UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said at the UN Sustainable Development Goals Summit in September, “only 15% of the Sustainable Development Goals are currently on track, and many are even in reverse.” Sustainable development goals cannot be achieved unless the “eat+food” issues are effectively addressed.

There are various reasons why “eat+food” issues can linger and get worse, the source of which is that the cognition of the current discipline is fragmented, lacking of overall cognition and overall management concept. Shiology is a new subject created by Chinese scholars, which centers on the eaters’ health, integrating the three major fields of food production, food utilization and “eat+food” order. It focuses on the comprehensive cognition and overall management of “eat+food” issues, and achieves comprehensive coverage of “eat+food” issues in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which can promote the comprehensive solution of human “eat+food” issues.
Founded in 2017, the World Shiology Forum is a high-end international dialogue platform dedicated to systematically addressing “eat+food” issues that hinder sustainable human development. So far, it has held three forums and summits in China, Japan and Turkey, which have generated good responses.
